CMSgt Harold Ploof was a little "banty rooster" of a guy...But he made up for his stature in knowledge and respect!!!
He "ruled" the Flightline!!! Got "picky" on some of the little stuff...but..he was always right!!!
He was of the "old corps"...We tried to give him a going away party gift, when he left Yokota...Said it was against AF regs for him to accept gives from his subordinates!!! and he stuck to that concept.!!!
Fantastic individual...Greatly missed...Gene Gross

Dr. Harold W. Thomas

My first acquaintance with Chief Ploof was at the DCM Staffing meetings with Col Hortman at 0900 each morning monday through friday.  Chief Ploof and I were the only maintenance types enlisted at those meetings.  I gained a great deal of respect for Chief Ploof, very knowledgable, direct and to the point.  The officers had a lot of respect for the Chief.  I ran into him years later at the commissary at Luke AFB Glendale AZ.  He was a licensed guide in Colorado and I believe Alaska and took greenhorns on hunting and fishing excursions into the wilderness.  At that time he was living in the desert outside (west of) Phoenix, the heat didn't bother him because he spent most of his summers in Colorado or Alaska.  We did have some conversation of the reminiscene type about our experiences at Yokota, concluded that we were fortunate to have been associated with the caliber people in 610, (circa 1974.)  Never ran into him again.
