Major Moehler was the kind of officer you wanted to be when you grew up (from the perspective of an Airman on his first assignment out of Tech School).  He seemed to be the guy you wanted to have believe you about the condition of the plane you had worked on.  I have to agree with the comment made by another that he would back you to the end of the earth if you were right.  Anyone who would be driving a 390 cid Mustang in Japan in 67 had a certain style.  Good thing gas was cheap in those days.  A really good guy, who left us much too soon (I recall that he died in Japan about 68 or so; I think I was still there when he passed).  Had a great future. RIP.

I believe Fred passed away in 1970 from a massive heart attack.  Although a 1st Lt. at the time, General Green at 5th Air Force had me appointed as Burial Officer.  I took the Major home to his sister in Oklahoma.  There, I buried him with Full Military Honors.  RIP.

Alan E. Hunter, Capt., USAF
