Do you have any favorite stories or notable events to tell us about while you were at Yokota?
Assigned to Yokota in the summer of 1965, I was assigned to the Detachment out of Tachikawa (seems it was the 1503 but may not be correct).
We had about 75 enlisted men an a couple of officers. We occupied 2 buildings when I got there, one was the orderly room maint and traffic control and some other cats and dogs, the other building (I think they were called Butler Blds) had the K-loader and other equipment.
We had a rough time, little equipment--we had to borrow towing vehicles from the base or anyone who could help us. One night around 2 or 3 AM I asked the Base maintenance control if we could borrow their Cherry Picker to repair something on the T tail. They said no one could use it without permission from the Colonel, I asked the Sgt if he would call the Col, of course he said no. He gave me the phone # and I had the pleasure of giving the old man an early wakeup call.
In the beginning they gave me 3 men to operate Maint Control 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We worked 2 on and 2 off for a few months. Believe me that was a very tight schedule bur we survived.
I transferred in November 1969, I didnt want to leave because I liked the squadron but............
I was a happy 4 years in miltary life. I made some very good friends during that tour of duty.
